TPEs can match TPV performance

New styrenic thermoplastic elastomers are said to perform similarly tothermoplastic vulcanizates in window gaskets.
Its new series of GainShine TPEs also have advantages over TPVs, such as less — or no — die drool duringcoextrusion of the window gasket and resistance to staining from paints. Compounds in the GS E5 series adhere well to the polypropylene or high-modulus TPE substrate that serves as the rigid supporting component in weatherproof seals in PVC, metal and wood window frames.
Some grades in the series can be processed with the same tooling as PVC profiles at similar throughput rates and die pressures. Rubberlike seal recovery, low-temperature toughness and UV resistance of the GS E5 series provides resistance to moisture and air demanded in this application.

The global thermoplastic elastomer market is maturing in some sectors, but still has areas of growth, Some TPEs are viewed as commodities, and their growth is slowing. The structure for those TPEs is shifting because of price pressure and overcapacity and There’s saturation in some market sectors.

Use of thermoplastic polyolefins (TPOs) in auto bumper fascias and of thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) and styrenic block copolymers (SBCs) in footwear are two TPE uses that are at the saturation point.
Uses of various TPEs for “soft touch” in sports, appliance, leisure and tool markets are areas that are mature and close to saturation.
TPEs still have many opportunities in the auto market.
Performance standards are changing, and that creates new opportunities. Thermoplastic vulcanizates and SBCs are challenging EPDM materials in auto glazing seals. TPEs also are moving into door seals and trunk seals. And even a basic market like floor mats presents a 300-million-pound opportunity for SBCs.
In the medical market, TPEs continue to see high growth despite early penetration. Prices for TPEs sold into medical applications can be two to three times higher than those sold into commodity applications. SBCs have been dominant in TPE medical uses, but copolyesters also have found a home in breathable films and gowns.
And although emerging market growth has slowed in recent years, China and India remain growth markets for TPEs.

PVC, silica gel and TPE-which is the best choice for sex toys ?

As sex toys are direct contact with human sexual organs, for the protection of the body, it is more important to Pursuit real sexual experience, These requir the raw material of sex toys must be very soft and healthy for body.the most common soft raw material including: PVC, silica gel and TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer). different uses of sex toys,different hardness of the raw material. some dildos and vibrators for woman usually using the soft material of 5-20 shore A and the processing is injection molding.But some Male Masturbators usually using the ultra soft TPE material of below 0 shore A(such as:000 or even 00000) and the processing are injection molding and pouring. The pouring is usually used for the large size male sex toys.Let's talk about the Advantages and disadvantages of PVC, silica gel and TPE for sex toys.

Look at PVC first. PVC is a polyvinyl chloride resin,we can let the hardness of PVC drop to very sofe by adding a large number of plasticizer (usually phthalate plasticizer DOP) even 0 shore A.The advantage of PVC: low price, Bright color, can be rapid injection molding processing.The disavantage: bad smell, the most important is that plasticizer is poisonous. Although PVC is not directly contact with the human oral airway, people always worry about the safety.Some high-end sex toys always using more More environmentally friendly materials but not PVC. What is more,for some sex toys of blow 0 shore A, PVC is difficult to reach the ultra soft touching.

Look at the silica gel. Chemical element of silica gel is a silicon and oxygen, does not contain benzene toxic molecular structure, crosslinking agent of silica gel usually uses the environmental protection of varieties. Therefore, silica gel is a very environmentally friendly soft material. For a long time, silica gel is the most common soft material used in the dult products. The hardness of silica gel for adult products can be adjusted in 0~20 shore A. The disadvantage of silica gel:high price, long molding cycle, and the raw material can not be recycled.


Finally look at TPE/TPR. soft material TPE for sex toys is based on SEBS , we usually use the environmentally-friendly operating oil as a modifier to adjust the viscosity and hardness of SEBS. The formulation system is relatively simple because it is a super soft material for use in sex toys. TPE is a environmentally-friendly soft material and its constituent components-SEBS and operating oil do not contain plasticizers which can pass the detection of o-phenylenediamine 16p, nonyl phenol (NP), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons PAHs. The hardness of TPE can be adjusted to be softer than silica gel so TPE is the ideal raw material for sex toys. some TPE sex toys may be a little sticky feeling, there will be a certain smell because of the oil, we can add some Smoothing Agent and flavor to improve the properties. The advanatge of TPE: moderate price, Recycling materials, safety.


In general,if you really care about the price and have few requirements for the raw material,PVC is a choice for you.If you care about the experience and the environmental protection,silica gel and TPE are better than PVC. However,the price of silica gel is higher than TPE.As far as I'm concerned,i think TPE is the best choice for sex toys.

Compared with the PVC material, PVC material carpet’s smell is too heavy, sometimes even contain toxicity:phthalate phthalate ester plasticizers and heavy metals. TPE material carpet:no peculiar smell, non-toxic and environmentally friendly, and even meet the FDA food grade standards.
Low temperature tolerance
low temperature resistance of TPE is better than PVC. TPE material will not become harder and keep elastic and non slip at the low temperature -50℃.And PVC will lose elasticity at the temperature of -10 ℃ . The difference and conversion between Shore(A) and Shore(D)

Generally speaking,Shore(A) is used to measure the hardness of soft plastics or rubber,Shore(D) is used to measure the hardness of hard plastics or vulcanized rubber.The shape of indentor from A-form sclerometer is frustum cone and the shape of indentor from D-form sclerometer is conical.

Test method of Shore(A) and Shore(D) are different.It could not be converted between them in the ordinary way.So if you want to measure plastics under 90 Shore(A),A-form sclerometer is  the best choice. If Higher than 90A,D-form is the best.

But we have two kinds of approximate conversion method.
   1、 D=A-50  ;
   2、A=0.173D+86.58.
If you want accurate hardness, it is recommended to use the A-form sclerometer for soft plastic, D-form sclerometer for hard plastics.

BTW:other special presentation options of hardness.

1.Shore(C):it is usually used to measure ultrasoft plastics which hardness is under 0 Shore(A),The hardness of Thermoplastic Elastomers(TPE) and
Thermoplastic Rubber(TPR) which has good Oil absorbing can be made to under 0 Shore(A)

How temperature influence the processing of TPE adhesion to ABS ??

It is very common for TPE adhesion to ABS. On the premise of no problem for the equipment and mould. Temperature is the main infuential factor of injection molding processing.

some time ago, i have follow a client who look for TPE materials adhesion ABS. His product is a button(size:80 mm long,20 mm wide, 2~3mm Thickness, Main material is ABS) so he want some TPE materials to adhesion to this button in order to get better soft feeling.

First step, i take some button samples to our engineers for testing. according to the result, they provide me a TPE materials(hardness:50A,specific gravity:1.07) with Good mobility. I carried these sample to my client's factory for testing the sample.

second step: the processing of testing. First time, their engineer adjusted the temperature of machine to 190 but the result is very bad because of the product deformation. Second time,185the result is better than first time. Third time, it is perfect.

Analysis summary: the reason of Product deformation is too much higher temperature during processing of overmolding and too fast speed of open mould. The concrete problem need a concrete analysis-GainShine TPE

According to the different structure unit of raw materials, TPE Elastomer can divide into four types, including: Thermoplastic Elastomer(TPE), Thermoplastic Rubber(TPR), Thermoplastic Polyrethane(TPU), Thermoplastic Vulcanizate(TPV). The most common, most used for various applications in large quantites among these types of elastomers is TPE. so we will emphasis on the information about TPEs.
